Ficus carica (Fig Tree)

Description

The fig tree is a deciduous tree that originated in M Asia and lives for several decades. It grows up to 5 meters high and has irregularly shaped branches with large leathery, palmate leaves. The fig tree is particularly resistant to drought and water shortage, but also to salinity. The much-loved fruit, which is sometimes greenish and sometimes dark black, is eaten fresh in summer and dried in all seasons.
